The public administration faculty have won national and local awards
attesting to the quality of their instructional performance, scholarship, and
professional activities.

Dr. Andranovich's paper "Olympic Cities: Lessons Learned
from Mega-Event Politics" received the best paper award at the 2000 annual
meeting of the Urban Affairs Association. The paper was later published in the
Journal of Urban Affairs. He garnered CSULA's award for Outstanding
Professor in 2005-06. He was elected to the Urban Affairs Association Governing
Board, 2011-14


Dr. Caiden was awarded the Aaron Wildavsky Award for her
contributions to budgeting and financial management in 1993 and the William
Mosher Award for the most meritorious article by an academician to appear in the
Public Administration Review in 1980. She also received the National
Distinguished Service Award in recognition of outstanding academic contributions
and leadership by the American Association for Budget and Program Analysis in
1981 and 1991. CSU San Bernardino awarded her Meritorious Performance and
Professional Promise awards on three occasions, in 1984, 1986 and 1987. She also
received the Dean's Research Award by the CSU San Bernardino in 1986, 1987, and
1990. In June, 1993, CSU San Bernardino gave her an Outstanding Service Award
for Twelve Years of Outstanding Service to the Department of Public
Administration, the School of Business and Public Administration and to CSU San
Bernardino from 1981 through 1993.


Dr. Freyss’ paper "Who Opposes Public/Private Financial
Partnerships for Urban Renewal?” was recognized as one of the best papers
presented at the 1984 conference of the Urban Affairs Association and published
in a special issue of the Journal of Urban Affairs. She also won an
award for the best book review essay in the 1987 volume of the Public Administration Review. At Texas Tech University she received an award in
1995 as the Graduate Student Association Professor of the Year (MPA) and won the
Pi Alpha Alpha Distinguished Professor Award in 1994-1995. Her article
“"Municipal Government Personnel Systems -- A Test of Two Archetypical Models,"
published originally in the fall 1995 issue of the Review of Public Personnel Administration, was reprinted in the 2003 anthology Local Government Management -- An ASPA Classics Volume, which “includes thirty of
the most outstanding journal articles that have been published over the past
sixty years.” Dr. Freyss received the 2012 Chapter Development Award from the
Southern California Chapter of the American Society for Public
Administration.


Dr. Ma is a twice recipient of the Fulbright Senior Specialists grant by the J. William Fulbright Scholarship Board, the
Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Department of State, and the
Council for International Exchange of Scholars.

Dr. Shiau begins her career at Cal State LA with a competitive minigrant
from the Edmund G. "Pat" Brown Institute's Youth Leadership and Civic Engagement
program, funded by The California Endowment's funding for the Boyle Heights
Building Healthy Communities Program.



The core faculty are augmented by a pool of part-time instructors, all of
whom have substantial experience in governmental administration. Their names,
